Plenty Of Play In Ponty Park! |
|
Around 4,000 children enjoyed a day filled with play at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd.
The ‘Making Time for Play’ event was an annual celebration of children’s right to play, organised by RCT Play Association.
Children enjoyed a host of free activities including den building, junk modelling, a climbing wall, waterslide, face painting and much more. There was also a special area with activities just for under-fives.
Organisations that helped run the partnership event, which was supported by Lottery funding, included Valleys Kids, Interlink, Penwaun Enterprise and RCT Play Resource Centre.
Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor, Cllr Robert Smith, who opened the day said: “Play is so important for children, as it helps develop their physical, social, mental, creative and emotional skills.
"It was wonderful to see so many children – around 3,800 youngsters – enjoying all the activities on offer - and we were lucky to have a sunny day.”
Play Day is a national campaign now in its 22nd year when thousands of children and young people across the UK get out and play at locally organised events.
