Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is investing £40,000 in a major scheme to improve a link road in Pontypridd for the benefit of motorists and pedestrians alike.

The scheme is to improve the exit from the roundabout by providing an 'overrun' area in a different surface material to avoid longer vehicles mounting the kerb. 

Additional warning signs and markings have already been installed and an anti-skid surface has been laid on the approach to the roundabout on the link road from the A470 Cross Valley Link. This is to improve safety for pedestrians crossing at the end of the link road. 

Finally, lane markings on the roundabout itself have been changed to improve traffic flow.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care Cllr Andrew Morgan said: “The investment by the local authority into this section of carriageway in Pontypridd will hopefully make a significant improvement to the traffic flow and also improve the safety for pedestrians crossing the road.

“The Council is committed to continually maintaining and improving the highways infrastructure throughout the county borough as illustrated in the massive amount of investment made into this service during the past year alone.”

A temporary road closure will take place in Pontypridd on three successive Sundays throughout November to carry out the work.

The road from the Bridge Street Roundabout to the A470 Roundabout will be closed from 6am to 7pm on Sunday November 15 and between the same times on subsequent Sundays until November 29^th or until the works are completed.
