Pontypridd has enjoyed a rich cultural history for almost two hundred years and despite the passing of the centuries the arts have a prominent place in this famous valleys town. It was here that a father and son joined combined their artistic forces to create the Welsh national anthem, “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau”. Also in Pontypridd worked a young collier who composed what is recognised as the Welsh rugby anthem in “Cwm Rhondda” which was named after a chapel in the town. And who doesn't know that Ponty is the birthplace of superstar Sir Tom Jones?
At the heart of this culture lies the Muni Arts Centre, which offers year-round entertainment including music, dance, comedy, stage productions, feature films and local band nights. Pontypridd also boasts the beautiful Ynysangharad War Memorial Park which has established itself as an ideal venue for large scale open air rock and classical concerts. Plenty of events and activities are organised throughout the year by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council to which welcomes tens of thousands of visitors to the town to enjoy fun-filled days and nights. |
