Many of the questions asked by members of the public will also be posted here as part of a Frequently Asked Questions aspect of the website.

What are the latest developments for the Taff Vale Precinct and the rest of the town?

Following a very successful public exhibition held in Pontypridd town centre by the owners of the Taff Vale Precinct, they have now submitted a planning application for their new plans.

The new development proposals would provide Pontypridd with an up to date, modern shopping facility in the heart of the town. The proposals include the use of high quality, contemporary materials including fully glazed panels, glass canopies, modern, metal design features and as the scheme is located within a conservation area, simulated stone is proposed at strategic locations to complement the magnificent, historic buildings already within the town.

The developers are also proposing to enhance and resurface the slip road leading into the underground car park as well as improving the existing underground car park itself. The current plans show that the improved car park will be better lit, better ventilated, have increased disabled parking bays and safer pedestrian access.

The plans are subject to approval at a meeting of the Council’s Development Control Committee in September 2009 and could alter as a result of the statutory planning process, however the developers are confident that if successful they would commence the demolition process by the end of this year with the construction phase complete by the end of 2010.

The developers are currently in discussions with potential new tenants for the scheme but they remain confident that subject to planning approval, before Christmas next year the brand new shopping facility will be opening it’s door to the public in Pontypridd town centre. The plans can be viewed by the public and have been discussed in depth at the last two Pontypridd Town Centre Forum meetings. Anyone wishing to view the plans can do so via appointment at the One4All Centre in Sardis House, Pontypridd.

As for developments elsewhere in Pontypridd, e
fforts in the recent months have concentrated on preparing a business case to submit to WEFO (Welsh European Funding Office). This is aimed at securing European Funding to take forward a number of iniatives in the town.

If the business case is approved for submission by the Authority and match funding is secured then the early projects would be to commence the street improvements in the central shopping area as well as introducing a revised grant scheme for private sector property owners.

Later projects still need to be fully considered but could include further street improvements to adjoining areas and access improvements.

In addition further transport improvements are being examined under the South East Wales Transport Alliance (SEWTA) and Network Rail are proposing significant improvements to the Rail Station.

All of the Council projects will be featured on the website (www.loveponty.com) once they are confirmed as funded. For the street works there will also be an exhibition outlining the proposals.
