Run The Ynysangharad Mile

Are you looking for a fresh new challenge in 2012? Then now is the time to sign up for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Sport Relief Mile event.

The charity fundraising event takes place at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd on Sunday, 25 March, 2012.

And with a new year now upon us, now is the time to commit yourself to taking part by heading to the safe environment of a gym at any of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s 11 Leisure Centres.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Build up your fitness levels as well as your running distance and help raise lots of money for charity at the same time.

“This event fits in with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure for Life campaign, aimed at getting people of all ages active and undertaking exercise in a bid to improve their health and wellbeing.

“It is all about talking simple steps to make exercise part of your daily routine and reaping the benefits alongside potential weight loss, enhanced fitness, muscle gain or even improved socialisation.”

Get to the gym now and by March you will be ready to join hundreds of other like-minded walkers and joggers taking part in the Sport Relief Mile, all raising money for a worthy cause.

You can visit one of the state-of-the-art gymnasiums at any of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure Centres and train in a warm and friendly environment, building up your fitness levels and making new friends at the same time.

Those taking part in the Sport Relief Mile on the day can chose to cover one mile, three miles or six miles – depending on their fitness levels and capabilities.

Warm-up sessions to get those muscles pumping will be led by the outdoor fitness team at the bandstand. The event starts at 10am and ends at 4pm.

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park is the pride of Rhondda Cynon Taf, having been named as one of the nation’s favourite parks at the annual Green Flag Awards, having been runner-up in Wales for the People’s Choice Award and 13th overall in the UK.

The cost of entering the Sport Relief Mile at Ynysagharad War Memorial Park is £6 (Adult), £3 (Child) and £15 (Family).
